It's Friday. Our last lesson this week. We continue with Smart Planet, Book, Unit 1, pages 12 (grammar) and 13 (Reading comprehension).

    EXERCISE 4

    1. The flag, the flamenco, the bullfights, the faults, some actors and painters, like Pablo Picasso...
    2. The first icon was the flag and became the first icon in 1785.
    3. Yes, they are still popular.
    4. yes, because I think they symbolize something that is of our culture and that there is not in other countries.

  2. Exercise 4, page 13

    1. The paella, sangria, chocolate and churros and the Sagrada Familia.
    2. The paella take his name in XVI century so perhaps it has existed for much longer.
    3. Yes, It is very popular nowadays.
    4. Yes, because it is food and everybody likes to eat and we are very good cooks and the Sagrada Familia is a very nice monumet to see.

    1)The Spanish omelette, paella, chocolate and churros are some the typical Spanish dishes.
    2)The Spanish omelette appeared around the 1800.
    3)It is so popular nowadays.
    4)This Spanish dishes are very positive because all the tourist want to taste them.

    Exercise 4

    1. Classical paiters and writers like Velázquez and Miguel de Cervantes. Important cities like Santiago de Compostela. And food such as Iberian ham, potato omelette or olive oil.
    2. The Iberian ham first appeared in Roman times two thousand years ago.
    3. Yes, they are still popular.
    4. Yes, for example, our food it's well known all over the world and foreign people come to Spain to try our ham or our omelette. Also Velazquez is know for his amazing pictures and Cervantes for his book, "Don Quijote de la Mancha".

    1. The Camino de Santiago, The easter week , actors like Santiago Segura o Antonio Banderas, The tapas...
    2. The first brotherhoods of the easter week were found around the XVI
    3. Yes, most of them are still popular.
    4. Yes, because they attract a lot of tourist every year and are very beautiful most of them.

    Exercise 4, Page 13

    1. The flag, Rafael Nadal, the paella, the flamenco dresses, the worldwide famous "tapas", Manel Navarro with his voice crack, etc.

    2. One of them, Manel Navarro, became popular in May 2017 after Eurovision

    3. All of them will last longer than other countries' icons. At least that's what I think.

    4. I think most of them are positive, because they lure a lot of tourists to come to our country and enjoy our culture.

    Exercise 4

    1. The alhambra, some actors like Antonio Banderas and Madrid stew.
    2. Antonio Banderas became famous with the movie "Los reyes del mambo" in 1992.
    3. Yes, he is popular nowadays.
    4. I think so, because it shows that in Spain there are also great actors.

    2.-The spanish golden age last from the 15th to the 16th centuries
    3.-Yes, they are still popoular
    4.-Yes, because they simbolise the cuisine and the art of Spain.

    Exercise 4
    1.- the holy week ceremonies, Rafael Nadal and La Sagrada Familia.
    2.- these ceremonies started in the 7th century. Nadal´s first Roland Garros was in 2005. La Sagrada Familia was created in 1882, but it isn´t finished yet.
    3.- Yes, they are.
    4.- They are positive symbols because lots of tourists visit La Sagrada Familia and watch these ceremonies. Also, Nadal is a very good tennis player.

    Excercise 4:
    1.- Spain is a country known by the naps, the sunny beaches, the paella, the flamenco...

    2.- The flamenco is a kind of dance which first appeared in Andalucía around the year 1800.

    3.- Yes, this dance is still popular and a lot of people dance it, although they are young or not.

    4.- Yes, I think so because the dances are a really important part of the culture of any place in the world and also I think that we have to be proud of all the symbols that represent Spain.

    Exercise 4
    1- The gazpacho, Pau Gasol, El Museo del Prado and Dalí.
    2- Paul Gasol became famous when he played in Barcelona and was selected in the NBA draft. El Museo del Prado was built the 19th of November of 1819. Dalí became famous when he painted "La persistencia de la memoria".
    3- Yes, they are popular nowadays.
    4- Yes, I think that they are positive symbols because Pau Gasol is a good basketball player, Dalí is one of the most famous painters, a lot of tourists visit El Museo del Prado and the gazpacho is a traditional food of Spain.

    Exercise 4

    1- Siesta(nap), Iniesta and ham are iconic in Spain.

    2-The term siesta appeared in the eleventh century. Iniesta is famous for scoring a goal in the final of the worl cup in South Africa. Ham became popular when tourists came to Spain, it is a delicious food starter.

    3- Of course, they are popular nowadays.

    4- Siesta not too much, because we look like lazy people, but Iniesta and ham yes. Iniesta is an incredible footballer, and ham is one of our most delicious local dishes. All tourists want to eat ham.

    Exercise 4
    1.- Rafa Nadal, Antonio Banderas, paella and ham are some iconic things in Spain.
    2.- Rafa Nadal reached the list of most famous people in the world (ATP)in 2003. After that in 2004, he won his first important title in USA.
    Antonio Banderas started his professional career in 1980 in some films directed by Pedro Almodóvar.
    Finally paella and ham became famous because of the tourist that came to our country.
    3.- Of course, they are popular nowadays.
    4.- Definitely they are. People can see all the amazing things that our country has.

    1) In my country, Spain, the tapas, the olive oil, our flag or our potato omelette are iconic objects.
    2) The tapas are said to appeared when Alfonso X (King in the 13th century) was recovering from an illness and could only digest small morsels of food.
    3) Yes! You can found tapas and spanish omelette in almost every restaurant here.
    4) Yes, I think.

    1. One of the most iconic things in Spain is our food, also "La Sagrada Familia" i a symbol of our country, but if we talk about people, who doesn´t know Iker Casillas?
    2. I think our food has been popular always. "La Sagrada Familia" started to been buuilt in 1882 but it isn't finished yet. Iker Casillas make his début in 1990, but his top moment was in 2010 when he allowed Spain to win the World's Cup.
    3. Yes, they are.
    4. Good food is always an important fact for our tourists. Visits to "La Sagrada Familia" gave us an important economic contribution. Maybe many people think Iker Casillas is not important for our country, but I believe he had been one of the best players in the world.

    El camino de Santiago, la Giralda de Sevilla, el acueducto de Segovia and Severo Ochoa.
    Severo Ochoa became popular in 1959.
    Between scientist, Severo Ochoa is a referent.
    Yes, because tourist come to Spain to visit these monuments.

    1. The flag, Joan Miro, the paella, the Alhambra, the worldwide famous "tapas etc.

    2. One of them, Joan Miro famous painter known by his art at 1900

    3. All of them will last longer than other countries' icons. At least that's what I think.

    4.Yes, I think

  19. 1. Some iconic people in my country are Antonio Banderas, Picasso and Rosalia and some iconic things are flamenco, siesta and paella.
    2. Antonio Banderas started his acting career with some Pedro Almodovar´s films in the 1980s, and then he appeared in several Hollywood films.
    Picasso was a very famous Spanish cubist painter from the early 20th century.
    Rosalia became famous on 2018 with her second album El Mal Querer, it was her end of degree project.
    Flamenco appeared in Andalucia, Extremadura and Murcia in the 18th century.
    Siesta appeared in the Ancient Rome, it was the sixth hour of the day.
    Paella appeared in the 18th century in Valencia.
    3. Yes, they are still popular.
    4. Yes, Antonio Banderas, Picasso and Rosalia are very talented artists, flamenco is very beautifull and paella is delicious, so I think they are positive symbols.

    1. Mireia Belmonte, Margarita Salas, Iberian pig fed with acorn, the Mediterranean coast and the torrijas(french toast).
    2. Margarita Salas become a important biochemist in the United States at New York University with Severo Ochoa in 1963.
    3. Of course.Although Margarita Salas has already passed away, she is still remembered.
    4. Yes, Margarita Salas was the first and the best biochemist in Spain. Mireia, the best swimmer in Spain.

    1. There are many of them, but for example the Spanish guitar, the flamenco dress and some iconic people like contador o Pau Gasol.
    2. They are both athletes so they became famous when they arrived to the top of their disciplines.
    3. Yes they are.
    4. Yes, because their are example of constancy and they love our country and also they contribute to it.

    1.Food like pella, animals like the linx and important people like Cervantes.
    2.The paella and the linx when they realized we were the only ones to eat this food and to have this animal, and Cervantes when he wrote the Quijote.
    3.Yes.
    4.I think yes because the paella is very tasty so a lot of people come to eat it. The linx is very cute and Cervantes is known in other countries as well.

    1. Some sport players like Pau Gasol, Carolina Marín and Rafa Nadal. The most famous food is paella.
    2. They became popular when they started playing sports as a job. Paella appeard in the zone of Valencia between the 15th and 16th centuries.
    3. Yes, they are still very popular.
    4. Yes, a lot of people from other countries like paella and when they come to Spain they enjoy eating it.
